Long recognized as a leader in the design and manufacture of EHV products, our customers expressed the need for a cost-effective line of IEEE-compliant, low voltage switches that could be produced in as little as 4 weeks.
We listened. Then we got to work.
We dedicated a team of employees to the project. We rethought our engineering and design process. We reconsidered inventory management, redesigned production areas, and focused on cycle time.
The FAST family of switches was born.
FAST switches are constructed largely of fabricated aluminum components; CNC machining, forming and stamping are used to turn raw materials into precision machined elements. Sub-components are then welded by our MIL-STD-248 certified team members using custom made fixtures. All components are stored at point of use and pulled from a rapidly replenished inventory system. Assembly, production tests, and packaging are performed by cross-trained FAST team members who have total product responsibility; any person, at any time, can stop production if quality is in question. The FAST production protocols provide the quality our customers demand, while minimizing cycle times and maximizing value.

The FAS1 is a high quality, cost effective double end beak VEE switch with ratings up to 138kv and both 1200 amps or 2000 amps. It is constructed with high conductive copper contacts and hard-drawn extruded aluminum materials and manufactured with state of the art, high-precision machinery.
The FAS1 is a center stack rotating switch with fixed jaw end insulators which allow higher terminal loads to be applied. The AT-7V has been tested and passed the IEEE test requirement for mechanical loading, short circuit, switch performance, as well as ice tested to ¾”. The porcelain or polymer insulators can be assembled at the factory and the center insulator is set atop a double row ball bearing, maintenance free rotor. The current is transferred through a continuous extruded aluminum blade with no pivoting transfer points making contact into the fixed jaws with reverse loop contacts at each end of the switch. The FAS1 can be mounted on minimum phase spacing requiring minimal overhead clearance.
The FAS2-V is a high quality, cost effective center side beak VEE switch with ratings up to 69kv and 1200 amps. It is constructed with high conductive copper contacts and hard-drawn extruded aluminum materials down to the base itself and manufactured with state of the art, high-precision machinery.
The hinge current transfer is achieved through fixed maintenance free braids, thus eliminating pivoting current transfer and providing low operating effort. The FAS2-V has been tested and passed the IEEE requirement for mechanical loading, short circuit, and switch performance, as well as ice tested to ¾”. The porcelain or polymer insulators are assembled at the factory and set atop two double row ball bearing, maintenance free rotors. The threaded inner pole linkage ensures proper contact engagement with no loss motion during every operation. Once set at the factory, the only adjustment is in the leveling of the switch to the structure through continuous threaded leveling screws.
The FAS3 is a high quality, cost-effective three insulator vertical break switch covering a wide range of applications from 8.3kV to 123kV and 1200 amps. It is constructed with high conductive copper contacts and hard-drawn extruded aluminum materials and manufactured with state of the art, high-precision machinery.
The FAS3 utilizes fabricated aluminum parts throughout and allows for minimum phase spacing when overhead clearance is not an issue. The FAS3 has been tested and is in compliance with the IEEE standard for AC High-Voltage Air Switches, as well as ice tested to ¾”. The design incorporates a maintenance free double bearing rotor on the operating insulator. Replaceable copper plated contacts are used in all critical current transfer areas. The hinge and jaw end design of the FAS3 are the same and utilize reverse loop contact arrangements for superior performance in fault situations. The aluminum base reduces the weight of the switch while maximizing strength.
FAS3, FAS2v and AT7V Test Summation
The FAS3, FAS2V, and AT7V have been tested in strict accordance with IEEE C37.30.1-2011 requirements. The three phase switches were operated via a three foot swing handle. Dielectric tests including 60 Hz, BIL and corona/RIV were successfully performed and exceeded the required test levels. Short time withstand current tests were successfully performed at currents above the required ratings with no outward signs of contact deterioration. Continuous current and switch performance tests were successfully performed and temperature rise limits were within specified limits for the materials employed. Mechanical operations tests, including terminal loading, were successfully completed in excess of 1500 open/close operations. Ice tests were successfully performed with an average thickness exceeding ¾".
